For example, perhaps you were stressed or anxious and you smoked a cigarette, or ate a piece of cake and felt better for it. Your unconscious will believe that these things are good for you and will motivate you to continue to crave the cigarette or piece of cake however much you consciously wish to stop. You may have had an unpleasant experience in water or with a spider and so your unconscious will try to protect you by motivating you to continue avoiding these things.
